Jack is frequently described as a lunatic but strangely he finds this encouraging. Jack’s ultimate dream is to climb the Nose on El Capitan but loves climbing in all its forms despite having dubious opinions of both gritstone and bouldering. In addition to climbing Jack likes running, kiteboarding, downhill biking, birds of prey, reading, biology and has an unhealthy obsession with mayonnaise. There has been vague talk of university at some point but there are plenty of adventures to be had first.

Jack is unusual in that he hitch hikes everywhere, claiming he prefers the uncertainty and likes the people he meets as well as getting a completely different perspective by travelling this way. Tim claims he’s just a smelly hippie who can’t afford anything else. Jack is strangely good at a method of transport so dependent on luck and managed to get from Alicante to his hometown of Petersfield in 49 hours at a total cost of £0.00.

Notable moments in Jack’s career include soloing the Penon de Ifach at Calpe whilst fighting off maternally outraged seagulls and breaking the crux of Fighting Torque at Cuttings, Portland. Jack’s progress towards realising his dreams has not been without obstacles. He was deeply upset by the loss of his friend, Tim’s brother Rob. Losing a friend to the sport that rules his life remains difficult for Jack but Rob was a truly inspiring character. More recently, surgeons told Jack that he would never climb again having fallen from a manly Scottish crag and broken both his wrists. Jack doesn’t believe a word of this and is going to use his new titanium wrists to climb even harder.

In the future Jack will be recovering from his injuries, raising money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society (his father suffers from MS so this is an incredibly important cause for him), he also plans to run the London Marathon and complete a full Ironman. Mainly because he couldn't let Tim gain the upper hand. Jack has been heard to say on several occaisons "It's not a competition. So it doesn't matter that you're losing (Tim)" Jack has also been getting strangely endeared with the idea of big mountains, having previously described mountaineering as “extremely cold hill walking” and would love to visit Tibet. Ultimately though, he wants to spend an abnormal amount of time in Yosemite valley on the side of El Cap.
